The Canadian High School Rodeo Finals wrapped up July 29 in Nanton.

Organizer Shawna Bird says with 300 kids competing every day, at least 300 horses and 1000 family members camping out it was a full house.

"This is a huge opportunity for local kids because this is the Canadian Championships," said Bird. "Pretty much if you rodeo in Canada at the high school level this is the best of the best, only the top four qualify out of each province. So to be the champion of this event that is the highest level you can win as a high school student."

There were several students representing Nanton and the Foothills area including Reata Schlosser who won the girls cutting, Lane Ferguson of Granum, won the bareback, Stran Schlosser and Lochlan Christianson tied for first place in the boys cutting.
