No championships buckles for Canadian Cowboys at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

The nine Canadian Cowboys won five go-round buckles and $536,540 while $350,000 was won on Canadian Stock over the 10 rounds.

One of the best stories to come out of the event was Steer Wrestler Scott Guenthner  of Provost, Alberta.

The first time qualifier finished second in the tenth round with a 3.6 second run. He was 5th in the average and took $87,000 out of Las Vegas over the ten days - finishing up 6th in the world with $186,839 in season earnings.

Also in the steer wrestling Tanner Milan of Cochrane, had a no time in the final round, but he won two go rounds won $72,192 and finished eighth in the world with $156,265 on the season.

2016 Canadian Champion, Bull Rider Jordan Hansen of Okotoks was bucked off on the final night. He was also competing for the first time and won round eight and placed in three others. He ended up in sixth place with a cheque of $84,038 and season earnings of $180,294.

Nanton's Clay Elliott, was 5th in the final round in Saddle Bronc and took home $32,423 finishing 14th in the world.

Last year’s World Champion, Zeke Thurston, from Big Valley was 79.5 on C5 Rodeo’s Double D to finish just out of the money in round 10.. He won $29,461 and finished up 7th in the world with $199,917 in season earnings.

Layton Green of Meeting Creek was bucked off after placing three times for earning of $45,679 as he finished 13th in the average and ninth in the world.

In team roping was defending World Champion, Jeremy Buhler from Arrowwood was teamed with Arizona header, Tom Richards after his partner Levi Simpson, just missed qualifying. Richards missed the head catch and the team took a no time in the final round.

Buhler earned $30,096 at the Finals for a season total of $98,101.

Jake Vold of Ponoka suffered a knee injury in round eight in the Bareback when his horse fell into the chutes which resulted in him  missing the last two rounds after leading the average after the first seven performances.
