The Calgary Express 50+ Slo-pitch team came in second place in the Kamloops NSA national tournament this year.

They fell short in the championship game, losing the title and the $10,000 dollar cash prize to the Vancouver Indians.

Player for the Calgary Express Ron Nimilowicth says, there's plenty of opportunity for locals to join the High River league, if they are interested.

"In High River we have 12 teams, and we have players aged from 16 years old, to Bill, who I think is 72 years old this year."

Nimilowicth says, even though Slo-pitch isn't always taken seriously, the sport can get very competitive.

"Everybody thinks it's just a beer league due to our sponsors, but teams train pretty hard for this high caliber event [NSA Nationals]."

With players convening in Kamloops from across Canada, Nimilowicth says he's proud of his teams progress.

"There was 80 teams this year from across Canada as far as Newfoundland to Vancouver Island, but it varies from year to year, but last years tournament in Calgary hosted 210 teams."
