Another week, another win for Kurt Bensmiller as he took the "Dash for Cash" final at the Ponoka Stampede Monday, July 3.

Bensmiller says winning Ponoka, and High River a week earlier, right before the Calgary Stampede gives him some good momentum heading into the 10 days of racing at the Rangeland Derby.

"I would say we have a little momentum. Going in last year, we didn't know what we were going to be like. Winning the last two shows, it makes a guy a little higher on himself just because the horses are working so good. So it gives us a little more confidence, which is nice to have going into those bigger shows."

Bensmiller's been riding high the last few years, winning the Rangeland Derby back to back in 2014 and 2015 and the WPCA Championship in 2015.

High River's Jason Glass had a good day Monday taking the fastest time of the day.

Fellow High River driver, Jordie Fike was 23rd, while Okotoks Dayton Sutherland was 33rd Monday.

Mark Sutherland had a rough go as he missed both barrels, and had a pair of late outriders to finish last on the day.

The Stampede gets underway Friday, July 7.
