The potential for a project called Ribstone Ranch within the M.D. of Foothills has some residents concerned.

A petition has formed against the Ribstone Ranch development which could see 2,600 homes built in the area of Dunbow Road, 80th Street, 48th Street, and Highway 552.

M.D. Reeve Larry Spilak says council has yet to receive any official applications.

"I spoke with our planning department just a few days ago and we have heard nothing. We have not heard anything from any of the people involved in this proposal so there's no way of knowing. I certainly don't expect one to come through in the near future, I don't know how far off it could be though."

Spilak adds that a project of the expected size of Ribstone Ranch should include certain amenities.

"It doesn't seem that it would be right to put this many homes in an area that doesn't have a main street, doesn't have a grocery store," he says "in order to have that many people you need to have a town, you need to have a main street, you need to have essential services and things of this nature."

Spilak feels that while creating a petition may have been a bit pre-emptive, it's good to see residents in the community taking action.
