Wind topples trees in High River

With a north wind gusting upwards of 80 km/hr it's toppled trees in High River.

One tree landed on a house on 4th Ave SE.

The High River Fire department is working with a local arborist company on clearing away the tree.

Meanwhile George Lane Park has been closed due to falling branches causing a hazard.

The Town of High River released the following statement regarding George Lane Memorial Park.

"With the strong winds and wet grounds, trees and tree branches have begun falling and blocking pathways and roadways within the park. Emergency crews are currently responding to the falling trees.

Protective Services and the local RCMP are working to connect with the visitors camping in George Lane Park, asking them to vacate the park and check in at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex (128 12 Ave). The Town is working on blocking the entry to George Lane Park, and local traffic will NOT have access. We ask all pedestrians to remain out of the park until further notice."

Fortis Alberta also says there are about 45 customers without power in the Baker Creek area due to the high winds.

And trees weren't the only things affected by the wind.
