Western Canada's wheat crop is off to a good start.

In it's preliminary crop forecast, The Canadian Wheat Board said this year's tonnage is well over the five year average at 23.6 million tonnes with the barley projection up as well at 10.3 million tonnes.

Bruce Burnett with the Board says "this is a promising beginning for the 2006 crop".

Burnett says conditions are good to excellent in areas where farmers were able to plant in a timely fashion.
