Water and sewer charges for Black Diamond ratepayers are going up.

Mayor Ruth Goodwin says council passed the change at its last meeting.

"Four-and-a-half per cent increase and we will see that occur over the next two years, the first year looking at about $1.94 increase I believe and that is the bi-monthly," she says.

She says the increases are due to operation and maintenance charges increasing along with improvements to the west end treatment plant.

We are looking at installing, I believe it is $18 million was the grant application for sewage lagoons and both the provincial and federal funds that we will have coming through but we'll still have to supplement that," Goodwin says. "Phase one will be starting this spring and we'll be successfully moving through an additional two phases.".
