A potty thief may be at large in Black Diamond.

Turner Valley mayor Barry Crane took to Facebook on Sunday (Dec. 12) to inform residents that a portable toilet is missing and believed to be stolen from the Foothills Lions Campground in Black Diamond.

The absurdity of the situation isn't lost on the mayor.

"Different strokes for different folks I guess. Nothing is sacred anymore, including the old loo!"

With that said, Crane, himself a Lions Club member, did find himself disheartened, given that the portable toilet had been placed there not only for users of the campground but for volunteers setting up other facilities.

"We put that out for the volunteers and the general public to use. There's eight fire pits and a full rink underway. Obviously, kids are going to need to go to the bathroom, so obviously, this is something we'd put out there for them. So to have someone steal this, it's mind-boggling. They have no concept of community, no concept of others."

Crane plans on contacting the RCMP for help in identifying those responsible.

He's hoping to utilize the Foothills RCMP's Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence (CAPTURE) program, where residents with security and surveillance cameras can volunteer to allow the RCMP access to footage if it might assist with the investigation.

He says there are also plans to install cameras within the campground.

"We will have full video surveillance in place within the month. This is the third time we've had criminal activity at our campground. A sign of the times I guess, but we're going to do our due diligence as a Lions Club and make sure we're covering the bases so it doesn't happen again."

On the bright side, Crane says the incident did spread some awareness for the upcoming outdoor rink.

The rink is expected to be finished by Christmas, complete with the aforementioned fire pits.

If you do decide to pay the campground a visit, be sure to use the bathroom before you head out.
