Specialized training is required when a load of livestock is involved in a traffic accident.

Jennifer Woods of Blackie designed a course to train emergency personnel what to do and teaches it right across North America.

Woods says as this area becomes more urban, there's a need to know what to do with animals at an accident scene.

"A lot of them don't realize they need training or the resources until they are standing alongside the road looking at the trailer", says Woods, "they don't think it's going to happen in their area".

Woods recently was honored by Alberta Farm Animal Care with an Innovation.
