Those entering Okotoks will soon be greeted by brand new signs.

The town has unveiled the design of the new welcome signs, which takes cues from the blue 'wave' design often used by the Town of Okotoks, including on its flag.

They'll be replacing the brown signs that residents and visitors will be used to, says community growth investments and sustainability director Jeff Greene.

"Those will be removed, and new signs will be further out from those. We're not putting them at the same location, we're putting them a little closer to the actual entranceway to the town."

They'll be stationed at most of the town's main entrances.

"There'll be three new ones, on Highway 2A coming into town and then both east and west on Highway 7. Then there'll be a small breakaway sign on 338 just coming off of Highway 2," says Greene.

The letters on the new signs will be backlit at night and will feature a solar panel to eliminate electricity costs.

Installation for the signs' foundation is expected to start this week, with the first sign at Northridge Drive to be installed sometime in December.

The town's Wayfinding Project signs have just had their designs approved, and will be shown on Dec. 3.

They'll be phased in over a three-year period starting in 2022.
