With the Sheep River's water flow levels at an 18-year low, the Town of Okotoks is asking residents to conserve water.

Water Services Manager Davey Robertson was quoted in a release from the town.

"Due to the fluctuating nature of the Sheep River with high and low flows, Okotoks is a water challenged community and we must all work together to conserve water. Residents are encouraged to practice responsible water use by adhering to the outdoor watering schedule to help alleviate the pressure on our wells."

though the town's watering schedule is currently in effect, they suggest locals hand-water gardens rather than running sprinklers.

They'll be working to manage local water resources and monitor river flow and adjust well production.
