The Town of Okotoks has activated its Emergency Command Centre as a precaution for the High Streamflow Advisory issued for the Sheep River.

According to the town, increased flow rates have been observed, but not to the extent that would cause flooding.

Between 75 and 125mm of rainfall is expected to have fallen by Wednesday.

The town is advising locals to avoid low-lying pathways, and that flash floods and pooling water can occur on roadways.

With strong winds expected to set in today and tomorrow, they also warn that the wind combined with the wet ground can increase the risk of falling trees.

The town's Flood Preparedness plans can be seen on their website.
