(VIDEO LINK) Town of High River opens Emergency Operations Centre

The Town of High River has opened its Emergency Operations Centre.

Staff are monitoring river flows and will keep residents up to date via the town's social media outlets.

Crews will be placing large pumps at all the major outflows and will be checking flood gates on the Centre Street bridge, just in case they're needed.

The bridge will only be closed if the Highwood River gets to between 300 and 400 cubic metres a second.

Everyone is being asked not to go on the bridge to take pictures and some trails and low-lying areas may be closed off.

You're also urged to avoid the river banks because they can be eroded underneath and washed away without warning.

The river's supposed to peak Tuesday night.

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Highwood River from the Town of High River to where it meets the Bow River.

A High Streamflow Advisory has been issued for all tributaries of the Highwood River upstream of the Town of High River.
