If you have an opinion on municipal affairs or are looking to get involved, then joining a board or committee may be a great option.

The Town is currently in the midst of their annual recruitment for boards and committees and are looking for idealistic, innovative and caring candidates.

Patt Huber, Legislative Services Assistant for the Town says it's an incredible way to give back to the community.

"Serving on a municipal board or committee is a great opportunity for someone to provide input in the decisions facing Okotoks in the coming years.  Committee members examine issues and provide recommendations to council, for councils final approval." If there's a specific area of interest, Huber says there will be an opening. "There is currently openings on all of our council committees and it's all outlined on our website."

When it comes to a time commitment, Huber says there's not much of that involved either.

She shares the committees make it very easy for busier individuals to take part.

"It's easy to fit into a busy life commitment, usually board and committee meetings are held monthly, some are even semi monthly.  Usually the meetings are held in the evenings to accommodate a working person's life as well."

Some of the committees and board opportunities include the Culture, Parks and Recreation Committee, Family and Community Support Services Advisory Committee, Finance and Budget Committee, and even the Okotoks Library Board, to name a few.

If that's something you might be interested in, the application process has been made fairly easy as well.

Huber says there is a few requirements, but the application is a quick and informal process.

"It's not like a volunteer type of thing, there is certainly a process. We do a quick somewhat informal interview with all applicants, then members are appointed by council to the committee or board they've applied to be on."
