Over the August long weekend, there were numerous tornado and extreme weather warnings throughout Alberta.

Environment Canada started sending out warnings from Sunday afternoon through to Monday night.

They covered northern Alberta near Grande Prairie and in central Alberta, including Innisfail.

Innisfail was hit with reports of grapefruit or baseball-sized hail pummeling the area and smashing windshields along the QEII between Red Deer and the central Alberta town.

There was a report of a tornado touching down near Coronation on Monday.

Fortunately, the Foothills area was spared with only a thunderstorm briefly bringing pea-sized hail in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 1.
