Oh to get back to live theatre!!

On stage or just as an audience member. Something about it is just magical! However, restrictions are in place and we are doing what we can to make it so we can get back to a world where we can take in live theatre.

Until those restrictions ease the Dewdney Players Group Theater is still providing an outlet to escape from current events!

LIVE over the power of the internet the Dewdney players are proud to present "Tragedians Anonymous. Shakespeare’s Tragic Characters in Therapy — virtually" by Rebecca Salomonsson.
This smart laugh-out-loud comedy, written specifically for ZOOM, explores its characters in a way we are all WAY too familiar with these days, with video chat!

An hour-long insight into the minds of classic Shakespearean characters who are in therapy to seek help confronting those who have wronged them and come to terms with those they have wronged.

At 10 dollars a ticket it's a great way to entertain your family and introduce Shakespeare "newbies" to the classics. Proceeds go towards fees and production.

What is really phenomenal about Tragedians Anonymous is the cast. The Dewdney Players have recruited seasoned members as well as those new to acting. These actors, under the direction of Jody Sanderson and produced by Ed Sands, put together a wonderful tribute to Shakespeare’s tragedies in only 5 rehearsals!

It's a pretty amazing feat, says Director Jody Sanderson. She adds this is the first time she's directed a team virtually.

"I am used to a whole bunch of people on a much bigger space. Very different! First of all, it's the technology. ‘Well, this is how you change your name.' 'Oh, and this is how you get it on Gallery' …  'You have to mute that' and then 'you don't put the video on’ that alone has been a learning curve.”

You will find some familiar local faces on screen but some of the actors are working from all across Southern Alberta and a little beyond.

"One of the guys who plays Prospero. He's our main, he's the one who keeps it all together. He's been in theatre for years … he's in BC now so that's where he's doing his part from and like Jen's from Airdrie. I'm in Calgary. Other folks in Okotoks."

Sanderson is incredibly impressed with the work the cast and crew have put into making Tragedians Anonymous a "virtual" reality!

"A shout-out to Nicola because she helped with the props. Trish Babkirk did the costumes and found everything I wanted and a shout-out to Joanne Lobb. She is the assistant to the director and did some of the footwork down there and watched the lines and you know got people in on Que and out on Que”

This isn't the first time The Dewdney players have risen to the challenge, residents might have seen "Fairy Tails Go To Court" By Steve and Lora Dingledine also produced by Ed Sands.
