It’s not just the heat that's hitting the Foothills, as now there’s a chance of thunderstorms.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Foothills County, Okotoks, High River, and nearby communities.

The weather agency says that storms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon, with the potential of some becoming severe, the thunderstorm risk could end by the evening.

The thunderstorm watch is in place at the same time as a heat warning remains for the area with Tuesday’s high reaching 29 degrees and Wednesday hitting 31.
