Last week from May 25-28, two elementary schools went head-to-head in a bottle drive war to raise money for playground equipment.

Ecole Joe Clark School challenged Spitzee Elementary School to see who could raise the most money collecting bottles.

Though Spitzee's numbers were highest in the end, both schools are celebrating a very successful drive.

Adrienne Lockton, Joe Clark parent council chair, is pleased with the results.

"I honestly think we wouldn't have gotten the same amount of bottles we got if we weren't doing this competition. It was great."

Spitzee parent council chair, Ila Nagus, says this is their best drive yet.

"This is our fourth bottle drive, and this has been our most successful. It would not have happened without the competition of Joe Clark challenging us to this."

Several trailers were filled during the course of the "bottle battle," a term used in the schools' Facebook posts during the competition.

Spitzee won with over $4400, but both schools are looking forward to having new playground equipment.

"We fared pretty well. There was a fast trailer switch, throwing another trailer in and filling that last one within a day. So our final total count is $4433.65," said Nagus.

Though second, Joe Clark raised over $3400 and is looking forward to having a new swing at the school.

"I think when I added it up it was around $3414ish. It could be a little bit more, but I wouldn't say more than $3500," said Adrienne Lockton.
