The sounds of music will soon fill the air at the Venue in High River and at George Lane Park as the Summer Series and Bandstand Sundays kick off.

Amanda Tanner, Vice-President with the Venue, says the Summer Series launches this Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.

"Our kickoff for our Summer Series at the Venue with the first one being June 10th. And so that will be the youth bands, our local bands here and then the following [Saturday] will be the circus!  We have the circus coming back, the Red Ball Circus on the 17th of June."

Tanner also says the Venue will be able to have two shows on some Saturdays this year.

"And this year because we got a really amazing grant through the Alberta Foundation of the Arts, we're actually able to fund two shows every Saturday."

They'll have shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. each Saturday starting in July, though they'll also have 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. show this Saturday, June 10.

Summer Series 2023

There's another first for the Venue this year; they're taking over the duties of Bandstand Sundays from the Highwood Lions Club.

Michael Kohler, fund development with the Venue, is excited as something extra special is happening with the community piano and a partnership with the Highwood Lions Festival of Music this year.

"They're providing two concerts and one of the awards that was given to festival winners was an opportunity to play on the community piano for two different events that they have. They're doing one in June and there's another one in September."
