The ever-growing lists of the "best," "top," and "most popular" are going to be flying at us left right and center as we round out the end of 2022 and ring in 2023.

The latest list to hit the masses is BabyCenters list of the top baby girl and boy names in Canada this year! 

Please note, the ranking adheres to the gender binary of two lists, one for boys' names and one for girls' names.

For the baby girls in our country, they found that Olivia was the favourite choice, moving from third place in 2021 to the top of the chart this year.
Sophia earned the silver medal, followed by Amelia and Emma. Lyla is the only name that didn't appear in the 2021 list but made it to the top 50 in 2022.

When it comes to the baby boys in Canada, Noah remains on top of the list in 2022, with Liam and Jackson in second and third position.

How do things look in Alberta??

The most recent data to be shared by Alberta was for 2020, when the province confirmed that the top names of the year were Noah and Olivia.

Both have taken the top spot in previous years, with Olivia actually holding the number one title in the province for seven years in a row.

Nationally, many new names associated with boys, such as Kai, Kaiden, Rowan, Micah and Arlo, made it to the list this year.
