Three local athletes are headed to Toronto as members of Team Canada for the Para Pan-Am Games.

Zak Madill of Okotoks will be representing Canada in wheelchair rugby again. Eighteen-year-old Madell competed in wheelchair basketball at the 2011 Canada Winter Games for Team Alberta. He moved over to wheelchair rugby and made his first Paralympic appearance at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Kirstie kasko of High River will be swimming for Canada. In 2015 Kirstie Kasko qualified for her second Parapan American Games. According to her biography on the Team Canada site, at the Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships in Toronto she was second in the 200-metre freestyle plus was third in both the 100-m breaststroke and 100-m backstroke.

Kasko competed at her first Paralympic Games in 2012. Racing in the S14 category she placed 12th in both the 100-metre backstroke and 100-m breaststroke as well as 14th in the 200-m freestyle.

At the Guadalajara 2011 Parapan Am Games Kasko won gold medals in the 200-metre freestyle and 100-metre backstroke.

Cory Johnson of Strathmore will play goal in 7-a-side Football or Soccer as we know it. Johnson has already broken five Canadian records in para-athletics including the 100-metre and 200-metre sprints.

The games go August 7 to 15.
