A great night for Okotoks Mark Sutherland at the Rangeland Derby as he scored the top day money with the fastest time of the night moving him within a tenth of a second out of the top eight heading into the final night of qualifying.

As good as it was for Sutherland, it was bad for Jason Glass.

The High River reinsman took a two second penalty for wagon interference which dropped him from fifth to 10th spot in the aggregate.

He can make it back in with a good run Friday night as he's less than a second back of Luke Tournier, who's holding down the eighth spot.

Fellow High River driver Jordie Fike remains in 13th spot about two seconds behind Tournier and will need some help if he hopes to make the top eight for Saturdays semi-finals.

The top eight heading into Friday night are:

1.) Kurt Bensmiller - 8:19.17
2.) Mike Vigen - 8:20.29
3.) Logan Gorst - 8:22.50
4.) Vern Nolin - 8:22.55
5.) Jamie Laboucane - 8:23.39
6.) Kelly Sutherland - 8:23.46
7.) Gary Gorst - 8:23.47
8.) Luke Tournier - 8:24.43

9.) Mark Sutherland - 8:24.59
10.) Jason Glass - 8:25.19
13.) Jordie Fike - 8:26.12
