After some confusion over the name of the old United Church in Okotoks, it will remain the Rotary Performing Arts Centre.

The building first received its RPAC name about ten years ago when the club donated $50,000  to the building located just off Elizabeth Street and Centre Avenue. That period of time has since expired, leading to the building looking for new sponsorship.

Bill Robertson, Mayor of Okotoks, says the Rotary Club expressed they won't contribute more funds, but it still felt right to keep the name.

The Rotary Performing Arts Centre has had its name for the past 10 years after the Rotary Club donated $50,000 to the building.

"This isn't a private business that's using it as advertising on a building," he says. "It's a service club that does great work in town... so I made the proposal to leave the name on for another two years."

Robertson says while the name is staying the same for now, they're still looking for new sponsorship.

"My take is it's a good compromise to leave Rotary's name on there, a great community service club," he says. "Leave it on for up to two years and at the same time still actively seek sponsorship of that facility because of course the sponsorship money is always money that comes off and helps subsidize that building so general tax payers don't have to pay as much into it."

Robertson says no groups have stepped forward yet, and if one does, then the RPAC's name would change.
