A world class cutting horse competition is taking place in Calgary this week.

The Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity welcomes some of the best cutting horses in North America, with close to $400,000 in prize money to be won.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, the horse and rider have two and a half minutes on the clock, and must cut a single cow out from the herd. The horse then uses it's instincts to keep the cow separated from the herd. The event started on Wednesday and will run until Sunday, October 15 in the Agrium Western Event Centre. Admission for the event is free.
