Smile Cookie week cheque to High River Hospital bigger than expected

A lot of cash was raised during Smile Cookie week in the Foothills last month.

All the money raised locally went to support the High River Hospital maternity unit.

Local Tim Horton's owner Kevin Generoux was blown away at the final total raised.

"$17,215.44 so that is through all the generous giving's of all of our guests because they're the ones that came in and purchased them. We had multiple orders of cookies, single orders and just people donating money. And all of this money, 100 per cent of it went to the maternity unit so, we're very thankful for that."

Executive Director with the High River District Health Care Foundation, Wendy Kennelly, was thrilled with this year's partnership.

"This has been a very exciting partnership for the Foundation, and I also think our friends at Tim Horton's because we were collaborating, and it gives everyone a chance to give back to hospitals and to health care one cookie at a time."

The money is going towards a hand-held mobile ultrasound unit amongst other needs the maternity unit could use.

Generoux is already looking forward to next year's Smile Cookie Week along with their next big community fundraiser 'Camp Day' coming up on July 19.

Hot Coffee and iced coffee sales that day will go towards their Tim Horton's Children Foundation which sends underprivileged kids on an all-expenses paid ten days at one of their six summer camps across Canada and the USA. 

Generoux also hinted there may be a special Christmas sugar cookie fundraiser coming up this year and he reminds they have 'dream cookies' on the menu if you're looking for something a bit different the next time you stop in. The dream cookies are not part of any fundraiser.
