There's been a lot of talk during the pandemic about moving to a four-day work week.

Foothills School Division officials were asked in the Ideas That Make Cents consultation if that was something that could be considered.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says they sent out a questionnaire to gauge interest in a four-day or four-and-a-half-day week.

For a four-and-a-half day learning week, so students would only be in school four-and-a-half days of a week, the interest was 51 per cent in favour and 49 per cent against, and 58 versus 42 for a four-day learning week," he says. "So, we have done a consultation and will not be acting on that."

However, Fuzessy says they did hear about Professional Development days.

"What we did hear though was, could we look at our calendar in terms of the distribution of our profession learning days, you know they're all on Fridays, could they be moved to Mondays, do we want to maintain ten days, so that's something we're convinced of looking at the January point in time because that's around the time we finalize the calendar for the following school year."

Parents who still work five-day weeks were concerned about what they would do if schools were only operating four or four-and-a-half days a week.
