High River's Santa Claus Parade is quickly approaching.

The parade takes place Friday, December 6.

Ted Dawson, Santa Claus Parade and Light Up George Lane Park Chairman, says there will be some changes to the parade this year.

"One thing that's different that we're trying this year is instead of having parade entrants passing out candy along the parade route, we're asking them to pool the candy, and committee members have graciously accepted the task of splitting it all up into bags for over 1000 children."

Dawson says candy stations will be set up all along the parade route, in an effort to make safety less of a concern.

"We just want it to be safer for kids so they're not scrambling along the edge of the parade route for candy or running onto the street. We're just going to give it a try this year, but so far the response from the participants has been really good."

Dawson says they try to leave some time to organize floats before the parade night.

"What we like to try and do is alternate the parade so that an entry with lights and music and then an entry with no music so that there are no big gaps between sound."

The parade route starts at 6:30 p.m.
