The Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter received an unconventional but very welcome donation from the Okotoks Oilers Tuesday, June 23.

After winning a sales contest at CUTCO, his place of work, Oilers Goaltender Brady Parker was given his choice of charity organization to donate $1,000 worth of kitchen utensils to, to which he says Rowan House was the obvious choice.

"I looked into it, and I think there aren't many other places that would get as much use out of the products as them. I thought it'd be perfect."

He says the Oilers have done a lot for him and the community, and that it felt right to include them in the donation.

"I thought it'd only be fitting to have them come out and to represent them as well. We do a ton of stuff in the community with the Oilers, so I thought I'd put it under the Oilers as well."

Resource Development Coordinator with Rowan House Sarah Davis says the donation will be put to good use, replacing well worn utensils in the shelter's kitchen.

"We are currently having to do individuals meals and things like that. We've been doing meal plans and having to separate it for each room and everything like that because of COVID, so these utensils will definitely help."
