The UCP's Roger Reid was the runaway winner in Livingstone-Macleod Tuesday, April 16, taking 16,957 or 70.5 per cent of the vote compared to the NDP's Cam Gardner who mustered just 4,998 or 20.8 per cent.

Reid says he's been campaigning for this job for the last year, but the idea to run has been four years in the making.

"We've worked very hard to get to this point. I've just been amazed at the support that's come along. It gets a little bit more real all the time. I think for most of it, it will be very surreal until we actually step into the Legislature for the first time and realize this is the job that we've earned."

Reid says he's not sure what his role will be in government, but he's not ruling out the possibility of a cabinet post.

"We've certainly had discussions around it but I think it's a little premature at this point. I have a steep learning curve and my first commitment is making sure I do a good job of representing Livingstone-Macleod in Edmonton. That's job one for me."

Reid says he'll take the Easter weekend to rest and relax before heading to Edmonton next week.

He says while nothing is written in stone quite yet, he's leaning towards setting up constituency offices in both High River and Fort Macleod.

All the other ridings in the area went UCP as well, but there's still one too close to call, and that's the Banff-Kananaskis riding, which includes Priddis and Millarville, which are in Foothills County.

The UCP's Miranda Rosin is holding a 672 vote lead over the NDP's Cam Westhead, with over 2600 "Vote Anywhere" ballots yet to be counted.
