Despite the wind and rain it was a successful weekend for the first ever Ride to Horizon.

The bike ride in support of Easter Seals Camp Horizon started in the Crowsnest Pass and wrapped up in Bragg Creek.

John Barlow, Macleod MP, hit the highway on his bike for the event and said it was a powerful experience.

"We took all of our volunteers and our riders to the camp afterwards when we finished on Saturday and all of them were so impressed with the camp and how passionate the campers were, they showed us around. Every last one of them said it was one of the most emotional days they've ever had, not only finishing the ride but going to the camp, and they all want to do it again next year."

Barlow says the uncooperative weather put the situation into perspective.

"We were talking about it after and I was actually kind of happy that we had to go through that, it really showed what we endured that day was nothing compared to what the campers at Camp Horizon and Easter Seals go through every day of their lives so it really brought everything home to us just to go through that and go through that together."

The ride raised approximately $10,000 which will go towards renovations and up-keep for the camp.

Barlow says himself and this years volunteers and other riders are already looking into a second annual ride for next year.
