RCMP seized methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and weapons from a Fort Macleod home in a warrant from the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit.

The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was carried out on June 1, with assistance from the Fort Macleod RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Blood Tribe Police Service Drug Task Force.

All in all, RCMP seized:

  • 5 ounces of suspected methamphetamine
  • 3 ounces of suspected cocaine
  • 1 ounce of suspected fentanyl
  • 8 ounces of suspected psilocybin
  • 150ml of GHB
  • Prohibited weapons including tasers (6), brass knuckles (2) and CS gas.

A Fort Macleod resident, 39-year-old Carl Zehanoviz, is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of 4-hydroxybutanic acid (GHB) for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon (x3)

He was held for a judicial hearing and is currently on a Release Order to appear in Fort Macleod provincial court on June 21.

According to RCMP, Zehanoviz is one of three suspected fentanyl traffickers to be charged in the last three weeks following a "large amount of opioid-related deaths" in Southern Alberta in April and May.
