School is a mere few days away and many proud parents will be relishing a milestone for their children. And while such moments are often captured in videos and photos which are then shared on social media, the RCMP is reminding parents and guardians about social media sharing, or in this case oversharing.
"While social media is a great place to share updates with friends and family about your littles, it’s best to err on the side of caution when it comes to sharing private information."
The RCMP demonstrated the do's and don't of social media sharing with Sylvan Lake RCMP’s Constable Trail holding a back-to-school poster that contains lots of personal information about a child.
"[This can] include a child's name, their age, what grade they are in, who their teacher is, and where they go to school – all information that predators or scammers would love to know. This year, think before you share and keep personal information out of back-to-school photos, no matter your privacy or security settings."
