A 28 year old man has been charged after breaking into a home on Monday.

Not only did the culprit break into the home, on a farm six km north of Claresholm, but he also stole a vehicle.

At 11:25 a.m. the Claresholm RCMP received a call from a 20 year old woman who said when she returned home that morning the suspect was already in her home.

A verbal altercation ensued between the victim and suspect with the suspect leaving the residence to attempt to steal a Chevy pickup in the yard.  Once that failed he returned to the home and stole a set of keys for a 1994 Cadillac DeVille car and then fled the premises.

RCMP members from Claresholm, Fort Macleod and Nanton responded and were able to locate the stolen vehicle being driven by the suspect in Nanton.

It was there the RCMP were able to take the suspect into custody without incident at a gas station in Nanton.

Further investigation revealed the suspect spend the night prior in the victim's yard.

He was also found to be carrying drug paraphernalia, in possession of small amounts of suspected crack cocaine, was breaching a Release Order, and did not have a driver's licence.

28 year old Alexander Harsanyi, of no fixed address, was charged with:

  • Mischief 
  • Break and Enter to Dwelling House and Commit Theft 
  • Theft of Vehicle 
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order Conditions
  • Possession of Crack Cocaine
  • Operate Motor Vehicle Without Drivers Licence
  • Operate Vehicle with No Insurance

Harsanyi was released from custody on a $4000 promise to pay release order with conditions.

His next court appearance is on April 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fort Macleod provincial court.
