A new Public Works Shop has moved up the Town of High River council's priority list.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says everything got shoved into one area after the flood in 2013 and getting the town shop rebuilt just kept falling back.

"We are just at the point now where we absolutely have to get moving on this and get some things done so finding a new home for the town yard is in the top five priorities and we're actively looking at parcels of land right now."

Snodgrass admits it can be difficult finding a piece of land that's suitable.

"There are some options all over the place but are you going to find the ultimate one that's perfectly centralized, that isn't in a residential neighbourhood and everything else, well no you're not, so primarily what we need is the right size of lot where we can build a proper shop and have proper facilities to house and store our equipment during the winter months," he says.

The Town Plan remains top of the priority list, with the expanded aquatic facility second, a scope of work review for Development Management is third, an event programmer is fourth, and the Public Works Shop is fifth.
