Nominations are now open to recognize local businesses.

The okotoks and district chamber of commerce is gearing up for their annual business excellence awards and is encouraging people to vote for their favourite local businesses in 10 different award categories.

Jayme Hall, Executive Director of the Okotoks Chamber, says they have changed the nomination process a bit this year.

"We've done all the nominations this year through Survey Monkey and we're getting a little bit more in depth with the nomination process. This year it's who are you, who are you nominating, what year did the business start, we want a third party reference, someone our judging panel can contact to verify your nomination for that business, and just a little bit more in depth questions so we can get a good slate of nominees and winners."

Hall says acknowledging local businesses is truly meaningful to those who put their soul into their work.

"Show them a little recognition. It really means something to be nominated, and I know they always say this at award shows, but it is really true, everyone's a winner. If someone took the time out of their day to give you a little write up and chat with us about some of the cool things your business is doing and why you're deserving, I think that that's definitely a pat on your back and deserving of some sort of recognition.

The awards will be given at the Chamber's Annual Business Excellence Awards Gala during small business week on Oct. 24.
