Picnic with a Purpose on Sunday really connected with the community.

Upwards of 2,000 people attended the four hour event hosted by the Rowan House Society at George Lane Park in High River.

Executive Director Linette Soldan loved seeing everyone come together.

"It was so important to see the community members come out. The non-for-profit sectors that were there to support the performers that supported the event as well. And you know just seeing the smiles on everybody's faces. It was really infectious."

Close to twenty different non-profit organizations joined together for the interactive family-friendly event from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

And all the organizations involved had a lot of interactive games to participate in.

The event was by donation and it raised over $4000 to be shared with all the groups.

However, that wasn't the point of Picnic with a Purpose.

"The whole event was really about awareness and bringing the community together."

The event was funded through a grant the Rowan House Society received.

As far as holding another Picnic with a Purpose, Soldan says they're going to be meeting soon to discuss ways to make it happen again next year.
