The sun was shining and music was was playing - Picnic at the Piano was a success! The free family-friendly show began around noon and was led by Kenna Burima, a classically trained piano artist. Despite being trained in Calgary, Kenna says her small town roots are the inspiration that guided a lot of her musical interests and pursuits. Featured in the Top 40 Under 40 class of 2015, Kenna is also a part of the Carol of the Belles Christmas concert which raises money for Calgary Sexual Health programs. Her talents are matched only by her virtue!

The event began with Mark's rendition of O Canada on the piano (last name omitted for personal privacy). Despite his impressive musical talent, Mark has never read a note of music in his life! You can read his incredible story on the Eagle 100.9 blog.

Conservation educators from the Town of Okotoks were also in attendance, providing the audience with information on recycling and composting and how to most effectively manage waste. The conservation educators are also central in educating the community on energy conservation and waste management. This is the fourth year that Picnic at the Park has been running in Okotoks and it has grown to be increasingly successful throughout this time. The next Picnic at the Piano will be held outside at the Olde Towne Plaza on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 from noon to 1:00 PM. In the event of poor weather conditions, the concert will be relocated to the Rotary Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) at 3 Elma Street E. The scheduled performer is Sheldon Zandboer who is one of Canada's most versatile musicians. He has performed jazz for Queen Elizabeth along with other members of the British Royal Family so be sure to come see him play as he will be displaying his talents for the Okotoks community for free!
