The RCMP have provided an update on the serious collision that saw a section of highway near Claresholm closed for several hours on Wednesday.

Claresholm RCMP were notified of the crash just before 10 a.m. on Highway 519 between Highways 2 and 23 near Granum.

According to police, it's believed a pickup truck crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming semi-truck.

The driver of the pickup, a 55-year-old man from Lethbridge, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Paramedics evaluated and cleared the driver of the semi.

The road was closed until around 3:15 p.m. while collision analysts were on the scene. 

The investigation into the crash is still underway.
