The Okotoks Public Library held the first of what is intended to be an annual tradition on Saturday.

Residents were invited to "Book It," a fun run intended to keep residents active and raise money for the arts and learning campus.

Four Okotoks Dawgs players were present for the festivities, and residents were encouraged to dress up as their favourite literary character.

Lorraine Cathro, chair of the Okotoks Public Library says they made sure not to make the run too rigorous.

"We wanted to have it a family event, so we made the course short. 1.6 kilometres, one mile. We start from the library, go over the Laurie Boyd Bridge, around the other side of the river and back to the library."

She says many additional costs will come with the expanded library.

"When we move into an expanded space we are going to need a much larger collection, as well as furniture, fixtures, and all of those things that go with an expanded building."

This isn't the last of the fundraising events in preparation for the expansion, with several silent auctions planned, as well as some other events such as a yoga fundraiser in the works.
