The Okotoks Oilers weren't able to pick up 2 points on Friday night in Drumheller.

But it was an entertaining game with the Oilers down 4-1 after the first period they made a push in the third to tie it up but could only muster two goals for a 4-3 final in favour of the Drumheller Dragons.

Ty Daneault opened the scoring for Drumheller just 61 seconds in, before back to back power play goals from Sam Simard at 7:51 and Grayson Dietrich at 9:14 made it 3-0 for the home side Dragons.

Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) got the Oilers on the board on the power play at 15:18, but the Dragons responded with a Vann Yuhas marker at 16:32 for a 4-1 advantage, which held through a scoreless second period.

In the third, Brendan Boyle (Lake Country, BC) notched his 10th goal of the season 24 seconds in to narrow the deficit to 2, and another Lorenz power play at 4:32 made it a one-goal game.

With just under a minute left, a Lorenz shot on a 2-on-1 bounced off goalie Garrett Fuller’s glove and into the crease, where Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) nearly poked it in, but the puck was ruled to not have crossed the line, and Drumheller held on for the narrow win.

Okotoks outshot Drumheller 15-8 in the third but were outshot 35-33 in the game, with Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) making 31 saves in the Oiler net.

It now leaves the Oilers just one point ahead of Canmore for fourth place in the AJHL South division before the holiday break.

The Oil doesn't get back on the ice until New Years Eve as they face off against the Calgary Canucks in Calgary.
