The Town of Okotoks is going ahead with the annual volunteer Community Clean-Up. Set for Saturday, May 8th.

They have however had to make some changes to work with the new restrictions put in place by the Government of Alberta

Community Events Specialist Zach Adams says the clean-up is a great way to volunteer in your community and keep the place we live as clean and pristine as possible.

He says they have made some changes this year.

"So obviously this year with Covid, we've kind of had to change how we did things, and there's no gathering component to this event, so we encourage everybody to wear their masks even though it's outside and make sure that they're sticking to the five person gathering limit that's now in effect and staying with only their cohort or designated people."

If you would like to get involved in the clean-up this year, the process is quite easy says Adams and comes with a free cleaning kit.

"So basically what happens is people sign up and they can sign up on okotoks.ca/cleanup and they can pick an area of the town. We have a map online and you can pick a zone to clean up in and then you are going to get a cleanup bag which we have some pick-up windows that you get when you register and you go and you pick up your clean up bag and inside the bag will be gloves, hand sanitizer, masks, everything that you would need to do this safely."

The Annual Community Clean-Up usually coincides with tree planting every year. This year, unfortunately, will be an exception.

"The tree planting, unfortunately, we had to cancel just because there was a lot of interaction between our staff and residents and we just wanted to keep everybody as safe as possible, so we've actually had to cancel a tree planting for this year."

Residents can get signed up on the Towns Website.
