Maclean's has released their list of Canada's Most Dangerous Places for 2018.

Okotoks ranks #129 of 229.

According to the statistics provided, crime rates for sexual assault and cocaine trafficking/production rose from last year.

However, these two seem to be the exception, as rates such as robbery, breaking & entering, and impaired driving all decreased.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa with the Okotoks RCMP says these stats can be misleading.

"A lot of crime trends we see in our area, these are guys we see from Calgary, doing the crime and going back."

Sgt. Randhawa stressed that these statistics change on a month to month basis, and due to Okotoks' relatively small population, a jump in crime rates can occur after a single offense.

He added that these rates are constantly monitored by local RCMP and any spikes in specific offenses are addressed as soon as possible.

The top three spots are held by North Battleford Saskatchewan, Thompson Manitoba, and Prince Alberta Saskatchewan.
