An Okotoks family woke up to an empty driveway on Wednesday, August 31.

Okotoks RCMP responded to a report of a stolen boat and trailer from the owner’s driveway. The investigation determined that the 1998 Maxum boat was taken from the residence of Stephanie and Daniel Quinlan between 10 p.m. and 5:40 a.m. in the Crystal Ridge neighbourhood.

A surprising start to the day says Stephanie.

"This morning at 7:00 AM, my husband went to leave for work and he walked right back in and he said ‘Oh my God, the boat’s gone.’ We had garden blocks that we used to make sure the boat didn't roll down the driveway and they were still there but the boat was just gone."

RCMP is currently investigating but residents are encouraged to keep a lookout for the boat. The trailer bears Alberta licence plate 6EK175. The boat is a 1998 Maxum, burgundy and ivory in colour, with “Suzie Q” as its name labelled on the boat.

She says the support they've seen from the community gives them hope.

"It's been really good. As soon as my husband posted it up on Facebook this morning, we had people texting us and calling us, and we had other people on Facebook responding. We're really lucky that way. We have all these people that want to help."

"We have family that own businesses and they've sent [pictures] off to all their employees who are driving around, so we're really hoping that we'll find it. But also, I know how these things go and can't have our hopes too high."
