An Okotoks business will be making a big push for Ukraine relief this weekend.

Covet Sips + Sweets will be donating all proceeds from sales this Saturday (March 26) to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.

The cookie, coffee, and candy shop opened less than a year ago, co-owner Meagan Layton says she's already aware of how generous the community can be.

"I saw men packing up to go and help and I saw people leaving home or donating a lot of money and I thought 'I can't do all of that but I can do some good with what I have. We've got this fun little bakery and coffee shop and we've seen Okotoks rally around us when we first opened and felt so much support from the community and I thought 'they would rally again, we can get people to help us do some good,' so we wanted to do a fundraiser to see what we can do to help."

She says people are already keen to get involved.

"A gentleman came by and said 'I can't make it on Saturday but here's my donation,' and just dropped off a handful of cash, he's like 'this is everything I have on me.' Ever since we posted about it we've had people dropping off money to get us started because they couldn't be here on Saturday."

They'll try to stay stocked on cookies, though Layton isn't sure what the demand will look like.

Covet is located at 322233 15 St E, and will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 10. p.m. on Saturday.

Layton says they're hoping to give everyone a chance to contribute to Ukraine in an impactful way.

"When you see big things happening in the world that are out of your control but are just so heartbreaking... the only way to alleviate that sadness is to take action. I wish I could send my cookies to sweet little Ukrainian children who have had to leave their homes but I can't so I'm just going to picture those sweet faces as we sell cookies to cute little Okotoks kids."
