Okotokians have had their say on two upcoming play areas in town.

In early February, the Town of Okotoks released a pair of surveys for residents to choose between potential designs for Rich's Playground and the Ethel Tucker Centennial Park play space.

When it came to Rich's Playground (located in Sheep River Park) residents were given three designs to choose from, all of them "nature-based," as decided by a previous survey from the town.

Of the 382 people who participated in the survey, over 68 per cent voted in favour of option 3.

The Ethel Tucker Centennial Park play space had two designs to choose from, both of them being rather unique.

Both designs were inspired by animals featured in the First Nations story of Napi and the Ohkotok, being a ground squirrel and a buffalo, with both being designed with input from the town's Indigenous partners and a descendant of Ethel Tucker.

The buffalo received support from over 70 per cent of the 267 respondents.

The new Ethel Tucker Centennial Park is located near the former Okotoks library building.
