The losing skid is finally over for the Okotoks Oilers as they came away with a penalty filled 3-1 win over the Olds Grizzlys at home Friday night.

Trey deGraff opened the scoring with Braeden Nesbitt and Matt McNair adding tallies.

deGraff says there's a lot of weight off the team's shoulders after the victory.

"This is a weekend we needed to turn it around, we can't be losing that many games in a row, you just fall too far behind in the standings on how close this league is," he says. "Winning this one was big tonight and hopefully we can make it two in a row tomorrow."

The Oilers converted all of their goals with the man advantage going 3/10, while killing off two different 5 on 3 penalty kills and in the final two minutes at one point a 6 on 3 penalty kill with Grizzlys goaltender Kurtis Chapman on the bench for the extra attacker.

deGraff says this game will be one he remembers for a while.

"I don't think I've ever been part of game with that many minor penalties but in games like that you try to keep yourself in it because you can go long trips at a time without getting on the ice if you're not a power play guy or penalty kill guy."

The Oilers are now 3-0 against the Grizzlys this season and will deal with them three more times in Olds including Saturday's game.

deGraff says he expects a different Grizzly team awaiting the Oilers then.

"I'm sure they're going to come out harder than they did tonight just being at home," he says. "But nothing is going to change the way we play we're still gonna play our four lines and our six defensemen and we'll hopefully get the job done.

Puckdrop is 7 p.m. Saturday in Olds.
