It may be early but the Okotoks Oilers' youth have hung in with the best of them.

The Oilers notched their 4th win in September with a 2-1 win over the then 5-0 Camrose Kodiaks.

Matt Mcnair and Trey deGraff notted the goals in the 1st frame and Riley Morris stopped 30 Kodiak shots fired his way in the win.

Defenceman Carson Beers says it was a tough 40 minutes for the Oilers after taking a two-nothing lead into the 1st intermission.

"They (Camrose) forechecked harder, it was harder to get pucks out, they started to finish the body because we are a smaller team but we found ways to exit through the zone and get pucks deep around their d," he says. "They're big d so you gotta turn their feet and keep their boots moving."

The Oilers with the win are second in the South Division with a 4-1-0-1 record.

Beers says so far for a young Oiler team they've been able to work hard night in and night out to be where they are.

"Playing Brooks, beating Brooks was a real huge confidence booster for us," he says. "It helped the guys to settle down and realize that we have potential here and listening to the coaching staff and our systems it helps us to believe in them."

Next up for the Oilers is the Calgary Canucks at Max Bell Centre Wednesday night before heading off to the AJHL Showcase Weekend in Camrose.

Beers says with a young team under the radar of NCAA scouts, all they need to do is play their game and avoid the obvious pressure that will be around them heading into the weekend.

"Team success is going to equal individual success that's what we've be preaching here in the room, can't be looking to being selfish out there, if you're team is doing well more scouts and more teams will be talking to you afterwards."
