As the Okotoks Oilers pre-season tournament came to a close Saturday night, there's still plenty of questions to be asked and players are making it tough for the team to say no to.

The Oilers have plenty of time to make those tough decisions before the Saturday night pre-season home game against the Calgary Canucks.

Head Coach and General Manager James Poole says there's plenty of what ifs to add to the process of building a team.

"Still waiting to see what is going to play out with some players that are off at WHL camps, still waiting on some injuries to find out what the length of those injuries will be before we start making some moves, so we're not in a rush to make decisions and we want to make sure we make the right decisions," Poole says.

One of those tough questions is who will replace CJHL Player of The Year and AJHL MVP Nic Renyard in net.

Right now the Oilers have two goaltenders in camp with one being last year's back-up Riley Morris. Morris proved that he has the potential to be the Oilers starter after a strong showing at the tournament giving up just two goals in two games, including a 33-save performance in the Oilers 1-0 loss to Brooks on Saturday night.

Poole says the second year goalie has all the talent to be a starter.

"I'm hoping this weekend has built a lot of confidence for Riley," he says. "I thought he showed himself well against the Mustangs and played a very solid game against Brooks, especially in the first period that game which could have ran away from us a little bit but he made some big saves for us, and showed a lot of confidence and it's a building block for him."

As the Oilers continue to build their roster around younger players, it's been quite the change for the Oilers coaching staff not having as many returnees to the line-up this year.

But Poole says the staff is enjoying building this particular team.

"Looking at what we had coming back and the players we departing and players going to school early, we knew the best direction was to go young and to build back-up to be a powerhouse and championship team we want to create here," he says. "That was the only path we saw that was going to happen and we're looking forward to this challenge because we got some good kids here.

The Oilers continue their pre-season schedule Saturday night at home against the Calgary Canucks.
