Oel Says Spilak Was Optimistic For The Future

It's been a tough few days on those who knew and worked with former Foothills County Reeve, Larry Spilak.

The long time Division Six Councillor, passed away over the weekend.

Current Reeve, Suzanne Oel, says Spilak made an in person appearance at a council meeting just a few weeks ago.

"With COVID restrictions going on, Larry had been joining us remotely for some meetings since March. And it was just so great to see him there in person. On October 21st he joined us. I know along with Council that it was so great to have him there and how great is was to see him there."

Oel says she spoke to Spilak over the phone just a few days ago.

"At that point Larry shared his hope for contributions that he wanted to continue to make, both to the community and Council. So, despite his health challenges that's the message that he shared."

Spilak spent 13 years on council, nine as Reeve.

No plans for his funeral have been made public.
